Steeping is the vaping world’s equivalent of leaving a good wine to age so the flavours mature. The goal of steeping is to improve the flavour of e juice by resting it for a period of time. Resting gives the alcohols and solvents that a chance to break down and enhance the natural fruit flavours of the juice whilst eliminating the harsh chemical taste that is sometimes apparent in fresh e liquids. In this article, we run through the basics of resting e liquids to improve their flavour.
There are three key ways to rest e juice in order to improve its flavour and these are steeping, breathing and streathing. Steeping entails putting away your bottles in a cool dark place for one to two weeks, breathing is where you take the cap off the bottle and let it sit for a few hours (no more than 12 as after this, the nicotine content begins to diminish), and streathing is where the bottles are shaken, run under warm water, left to breathe in a cool dark place for a few hours, shaken again and then have the excess air squeezed from the bottle.
Regardless of what e juice improvement process you’re undertaking, running the bottle under warm water and then vigorously shaking it are two ways to maximise the results. Running the bottle under warm water gets the molecules to move around and amalgamate faster, whilst shaking the bottle is a physical way of achieving the same thing.
Knowing which e liquids you need resting is not an exact science, but there are a few different factors you can use as a guide when buying.
Knowing which juices to rest and how long to rest them is all a matter of taste. If you get a new e juice and like the flavour, then use it straight away and don’t mess with a good thing. On the other hand, if you find the taste of your e juice harsh with strong overtones of alcohol or chemicals, then it’s worth experimenting with steeping, breathing or streathing.
