5 Reasons to Love the Wismec Reuleaux RX2/3

Posted on September 13, 2016 by Paul McNamara

One of the newest products in our store is the Wismec Reuleaux RX2/3, a unique and versatile mod for those who like their vapouriser to have some serious juice. This week, we run through five key reasons you’ll love this mod.

The crucial way that the new Wismec differs from the original RX200 is with it’s convertible features that make it easier to take this mod on the road. Wismec is of course famous for it’s three battery setup which provides an impressive maximum wattage of 200 watts. However, the three battery design made the original RX200 bulky and hard to transport, so the 2/3 model has been updated with a convertible design that allows you to downsize to two batteries for easy transport. With two batteries, the RX2/3 becomes a 150W device, which is still more than enough power for the average user.

Large display

The new Wismec features the same generous 2.4 centimetre display screen which lets you keep an eye on all the important vape settings during use. The screen space can also be customised with a logo to make your mod feel a little more personal and unique. Upgrading the device is also incredibly simple and can be done using a computer.

Full power range

Many mods on the market advertise a variable power range of up to 200W, but they go up in 5 or 10W increments, making it harder for users to fine tune their experience. The RX2/3 provides a full wattage range by going up one watt at a time to a maximum of 200W.

Variable settings

Like it’s predecessor, the RX2/3 offers a smorgasbord of different variables which let you tailor the vaping experience to suit your own tastes. Variable features include wattage, temperature control, coil type, and TCR. The RX2/3 can be used with the lowest possible ohm limit of 0.05 ohms in the TC setting, which goes up to 1.5ohms. Kanthal coils can be used for higher ohm limits between 0.1 and 3.5 ohms.

Security settings

The creators of the RX2/3 have designed an intuitive device with a plethora of inbuilt safety precautions which alert the user in instances of reversed batteries or short circuiting via the large display screen.

Vaphilia is proud to stock some of the best e cigarette products on the market including the Wismec Reuleaux RX2/3. Shop our extensive range both online and in store.

Investigating the Legality of Vaping in Victoria

Posted on September 09, 2016 by Paul McNamara

As governments continue to grapple with legislating vaping technology, many users are left in the dark about what is and is not legally acceptable. Although regulation of nicotine containing substances is obviously an important matter of public safety, there is heated debate around the way vape users are being ostracised and lumped in with cigarette smokers by law makers. This week, we take a look at what exactly the vaping laws are in Australia, and what proposed laws may come into effect in the near future.

In Victoria, the sale and supply of electronic cigarettes is legal. From August 1st 2017, it will be illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to purchase, possess or use electronic cigarettes whether or not they contain nicotine. However, the sale of nicotine products such as nicotine containing e juice is currently illegal and shows no sign of changing in the near future. For vapers who want to use nicotine products, it is legal to import nicotine from overseas for personal use. Each importation is limited to three months’ supply and the total amount of nicotine imported over a period of 12 months cannot exceed 15 months’ supply. There are many different overseas vendors in which you can purchase nicotine. If you need help use the contact page and will get back to you with some direct links where it can be purchased.

The use of electronic cigarettes is currently legal everywhere in Victoria, but from August 1st 2017, it will be illegal to use electronic cigarettes in all smoke free areas, whether or not they contain nicotine. Although these laws will not technically come into effect until next year, it’s still good practice to refrain from using a vapouriser in places where smoking is banned, as electronic cigarettes are a relatively new technology that not all the general public is knowledgeable about, and the use of these devices in close proximity to non smokers or asthmatics may cause distress or upset. Being polite and conscientious about the way that you use your vape is one of the best things you can do to portray a positive image of vapers to the wider community.

Tips for Keeping Your Mod Clean and Pristine

Posted on September 01, 2016 by Paul McNamara

If you’ve just invested in your first mod, then you’re probably deeply ensconced in the midst of a vape cloud euphoria right now, but in a few weeks’ time, you’re going to notice your mod is looking pretty gunky, and maybe even experience some unpleasant side effects like ‘ghost’ flavours, a burnt taste, a flooded battery, and poor vapour production. The cumulative effect of these things is probably going to take the sheen off your new mod, but you can avoid the whole thing in the first place by following these simple cleaning tips.

Drip tip

There are 20 billion microbes in the average human mouth, so if you’re sucking on your mod several times a day over several weeks, your drip tip is going to become unhygienic, and fast. Drip tips collect all kinds of gross things like saliva, food residue and dead skin, and when this gunk builds up, it can compromise the quality of vapour. The best way to clean your drip tip is to simply remove it and run it under some water and get the gunk off. Do this as needed. I do it maybe once a day or whenever I notice the gunk build-up.

Cleaning the clearomiser is important to ensure quality vapour clouds and unadulterated e juice flavour. Cleaning the clearomiser is a twostep process, the first stage of which involves cleaning the tank to get rid of any gunk. Remove the drip tip, discard any excess e liquid, and then fill the tank up halfway with warm water, before placing your thumb over the opening and shaking it vigorously for a few seconds, then dumping the water out. Repeat this process 4-5 times and if you are dealing with flavour ghosting (getting hints of leftover e juice flavours even after you start using a new flavour), then adding a little lemon juice or clear alcohol like vodka can help neutralise this. Always remove the coil before washing your tank. Never wash the coil as you will ruin it. If you are changing flavours in your tank, then either use the same coil and just wait until the new flavour comes through (about 5 minutes) or change the coil altogether. For myself, as I usually vape similar flavours (dessert) I just use the same coil and wait for the new flavour to come out. But if you are changing to a different flavour profile (e.g. going from a tobacco to fruit) then you might be better off changing the coil as well.

Cleaning the battery is more about maintaining function than hygiene. Poor firing connection is a common issue which can occur when e liquid seeps through onto the top of the 510 pin that connects the battery to the tank. Cleaning your battery and the tank regularly is simple and ensures a strong connection. All you need to do is take a dry cotton cloth and gently clean both connections.

The Vaphilia Guide to Steeping

Posted on August 19, 2016 by Paul McNamara

Steeping is the vaping world’s equivalent of leaving a good wine to age so the flavours mature. The goal of steeping is to improve the flavour of e juice by resting it for a period of time. Resting gives the alcohols and solvents that a chance to break down and enhance the natural fruit flavours of the juice whilst eliminating the harsh chemical taste that is sometimes apparent in fresh e liquids.  In this article, we run through the basics of resting e liquids to improve their flavour.

Steeping, breathing and streathing

There are three key ways to rest e juice in order to improve its flavour and these are steeping, breathing and streathing. Steeping entails putting away your bottles in a cool dark place for one to two weeks, breathing is where you take the cap off the bottle and let it sit for a few hours (no more than 12 as after this, the nicotine content begins to diminish), and streathing is where the bottles are shaken, run under warm water, left to breathe in a cool dark place for a few hours, shaken again and then have the excess air squeezed from the bottle.

Maximise your results

Regardless of what e juice improvement process you’re undertaking, running the bottle under warm water and then vigorously shaking it are two ways to maximise the results. Running the bottle under warm water gets the molecules to move around and amalgamate faster, whilst shaking the bottle is a physical way of achieving the same thing.

Pick the right juice

Knowing which e liquids you need resting is not an exact science, but there are a few different factors you can use as a guide when buying.

  • Juices marketed as ‘premium’ products have been pre-steeped and this will generally be listed in the product description.
  • Juices containing nicotine should have a brownish red colour when they’re ready to use, so if you have clear e liquid containing nicotine, it probably needs to be steeped.

Let your tastebuds be your guide

Knowing which juices to rest and how long to rest them is all a matter of taste. If you get a new e juice and like the flavour, then use it straight away and don’t mess with a good thing. On the other hand, if you find the taste of your e juice harsh with strong overtones of alcohol or chemicals, then it’s worth experimenting with steeping, breathing or streathing.

Vaphilia stock an extensive range of quality e liquid brands which can be used straight away or steeped to suit your flavour preferences.

Exploring the World of Mini Vapourisers

Posted on August 16, 2016 by Paul McNamara

As the stealth style of vaping continues to gain ground, more and more of the leading e cigarette companies are producing miniature portable vapouriser models which are perfect for the user who likes to keep their habits private. This week, we take a look at the mini vaporiser phenomenon, and explore how they measure up both literally and figuratively to their full sized counterparts.

Mini Vapourisers

The biggest advantage of mini vapourisers is how easy they are to take on the road. With most mini mods being less than 10cm in length and small enough to fit into the palm of your hand, they easily fit into a pocket, purse or briefcase. The 75W Eleaf Istick Pico TC Mod for example, is just 45mm wide and 70.5mm long, so small enough to fit in your coat pocket without creating a bulge.

Whilst most mini mods have a reduced e juice capacity due to their more compact size, they are surprisingly comparable to standard mods when it comes to power and performance. Designs like the Tesla Stealth Mod come with 2200 mAh Li Po battery power and 100W capacity, which is more juice than most vapers need. Mini mods do tend to have less functions than some of their standard counterparts, but this may suit users who like to stick to one function per device anyway.

Most mini mods on the market are scaled down and simplified versions of a standard design, so they can actually be more aesthetically pleasing than the original. Devices like the Vaporesso Target Mini Mod are a perfect example of this, as the sleek scaled down design makes the original target mod look awkward and gangly by comparison.

Vaping experience

Mini but mighty, these scaled down designs can still pack quite a punch when it comes to throat hit, and their size really has no bearing on the quality of the vaping experience. If anything, the mini design makes it easier to relax and enjoy you vape breaks in peace.

In the world of vaping, bigger doesn’t necessarily always mean better and the mini mod trend stands testament to this. These devices are ideal for a private user who doesn’t have much call to switch up functions and likes to keep their vape style simple.
